    Backing Up Files

Can anyone out there give me an easy way of backing up my files? I am relatively new to computing and would welcome any advice. I have Windows XP and have tried unsuccessfully a few times, every time I get close I get the message "E:\Backup.bkf Please ensure it is a valid path and you have sufficient access" Please help me someone !!

If your using the backup software built in to Windows XP you will need to back up your data to your hard drive first and then burn it to CD or DVD. The Windows XP backup software won't allow you to backup straight to CD or DVD.

my last post was three links. click on each line. the first tells you why you cant backup directly to removable media; the second tells you how to backup to your hard drive; the third tells you how to copy the backup from your hard drive to cd.

put simply; you need to put the backup on your hard drive (your desktop; for example); then copy that file to cd.

Alternatively, you could invest in some software (probably around £30) that will allow you to create backups and restore them should something go wrong.

The one i've got is called Drive Image 7 by Powerquest/Symantec and i'll never look back

It comes with a bootable CD that you can use when things are broken, which allows you to locate backup files on CD's or DVDs or ZIP drives that you've used, and then restore them. You can also restore little parts of the backup to your hard disk, and set up automatic regular backups.

    Hope this helps
