HI
I am using western digital hard drive with an external enclosure. My computer detects only 137 GB of 250 GB capacity. I have done the following to resolve this issue but hasnt been resolved yet.

a) installed windows XP service pack 2
b)have already enabled support in the windows registry

why is my comptuer still not able to detect the full capacity of the hard disk?

reposting this link just in case someone else may find something in it.

The full capacity of EIDE drives larger than 137GB (128GB binary) is not recognized in Windows 2000/XP.

the other condition I saw there was the BIOS version.

you might want to post a hardware scan:

D-A-L Hardware Scan

in disk management is it still listed as 137?

Is your drive connected directly to the motherboard or are you using a Controller Card? point being that your board might not support that size drive.

The disk is internal hard disk housed in an external enclosure which has a IDE to USB 2.0 convertor. So it is connected to my computer through a USB cable

Sorry I have no awnser, other than trying to see if the drive & connection are compatable. Drives that size often require Controller Cards although I am not sure that this applies to your set-up.

Hopefully someone else here will have more to offer.
