Has this problem only started happening since you installed the google search ??

If so uninstall it and try again

Hello zed, In order to view the inf folder you will need to go to Control Panel, Folder Options, click the View tab and set it like I have it below. HTH

I have a Western Digital Internal Hard Disk Model No. WD 2500JB with capacity 250 Gb. When I tried installing it as an external hard disk with the enclosure my lap top does not detect more than half its capacity (127GB). How do I resolve this issue?

    hey krishk24

    see if this helps:

The full capacity of EIDE drives larger than 137GB (128GB binary) is not recognized in Windows 2000/XP.

Please start your own thread if you have more questions about this.

ok back to frozen search function...found the hidden info file, and followed advice from jephree FAQ but could not install file that was mentioned.

I do not think the problem is connected to Google desktop search as it has run for over a month without problems.

At present the XP search does not open and the start button and lower task bar cannot be accessed either, but I can open other programs normally. There does seem to be some sort of problem with explorer.exe as this is running with the cpu at 100% but nothing is happening apart from the cooling fan going like the clappers...

    ok 2 things i wonder:

    1. can you search from within windows explorer?

    2. do you have a system restore point prior to this problem?

the task bar & start & search & run are connected... btw can you use RUN? try cmd.exe

also can you access Help & Support?

You might also consider running HiJack This:
Please follow all of Owen's instructions HERE once you have completed that post your log on the Spyware, Adware and Viruses board.

    in reply...

    1. can you search from within windows explorer? yes as I have a desktop shortcut and it works ok from there.
    2. do you have a system restore point prior to this problem? Restored to a previous point but no change
the task bar & start & search & run are connected... btw can you use RUN? try cmd.exe
Cannot use RUN as I cannot access the START button…RUN works normally before the search freezes
also can you access Help & Support? as above

have run Hijackthis and posted as requested...
