What type of connection is it? USB? Wireless? PS/2?

Have you checked the connections? Plug/ Unplug?

    Any error messages?

Check Event viewer for system errors via

    START > RUN > eventvwr.msc

have you checked the connections? Plug/ Un plug?

is this a new problem? did your mouse & keyboard work ok before?

When you say "sometimes not seem to respond" are you sure its the mouse & keyboard rather than the computer freezing?

Well I tried it already , unplug and re-plug , I even change my mouse and keyboard too... the computer did not freeze it works I means I can use the turn off button (push it and release) and the WINDOWS shut down - not turn it off forcefully.

Can you boot into safe mode?

A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP

if yes then I would first try to boot into Last Good Configuration
or else try a System Restore to a point prior to this problem.

    did you try a restore?

    also check the Device Manager

    Start > Run > devmgmt.msc

under Keyboards as well as Mice etc.

check for any errors or warnings... try to update drivers...

double click listing then try drivers & or troubleshooting
