    welcome to d-a-l
it sounds like to me that your privacy settings are at fault can you uninstall then reinstall avg
i had a similar problem using norton antivirus so i did a reinstall and since then no probs i was convinced it had something to do with sp2

What happens when you refresh the page when the above occurs?

Do you have a pop up blocker working?

I don't follow your last thought about formatting C

Are you thinking of completely reinstalling XP because of the above?

It is usually not necessary to format XP to correct a problem.

~But to awnser the question: here is a good site:

    Try this.......

    Close all internet explorer windows.

Go to start > run > type in regsvr32 urlmon.dll
