    Office XP Installation Problem

When I attempt to install Microsoft Office XP, I get the following message:

Error 1304: Error writing to the file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\PKMFORMS.DLL. Verify that you have access to that directory.

I am logged on as the Administrator, so I don't think having access to that directory is an issue.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks!

    try the following please

    1. Start your computer by using an administrator account.
    2. To open a command prompt, click Start, click Run, type CMD.EXE, and then click OK.
    3. Type cacls.exe "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Documents" /G BUILTIN\Administrators:F, and then press ENTER.
    4. When you read the prompt Are you sure (Y/N)?, press Y.
    5. Type cacls.exe "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Documents" /G System:F, and then press ENTER.
    6. When you read the prompt Are you sure (Y/N)?, press Y.
    7. Type cacls.exe "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Documents" /G BUILTIN\Users:R, and then press ENTER.
    8. When you read the prompt Are you sure (Y/N)?, press Y.

    hope this helps

Did you have a previous installation of Office?

I see this error related to residual files.

    Here is a Microsoft page:

"Error 1304" or "Error 1305" error message when you install Office 2000 or Office XP

    & here a long thread:

    Office XP

Ok, I should have mentioned that. Office XP was previously on this computer. Everytime I tried to open an excel file, I would get a message asking me to insert the installation disk. I did so, but I only got error messages. So, I uninstalled and attempted to reninstall. This is the OEM software, by the way, that came with the laptop.

So if I have residual files leftover from the uninstall, how do I get rid of them??

do you mean that xp is oem which is possible or do you mean that microsoft office was oem which is unlikely in which case if office was not oem uninstall it and reinstall

I mean that office xp came preloaded on this laptop. The Office XP software that I have came (sealed) with the laptop.

I did try to unistall and reinstall...that is where the problem lies. I get the Error 1304 when I attempt to reinstall.
