    hi thanks again for replying

i cant use the instructions as i dont get that far now it gets to about 19% installed then cannot copy any more files, i have racked my brain and searched the web all day, but could it be my graphics card its about 2 years old and it worked on the old drive but that was an upgrade would it hinder a fresh install of xp on a new hdd.

Have you completely wiped your drive prior to install?

Such errors usually relate to "left-over" files.

your hard drive manufacturer probably has a "wiping" utility via a boot floppy.
