Hi just wondering if anyone can help..

My friend has a problem with Windows XP. She recently installed Spybot Search & Destroy and now she cannot open any Windows related components like Control Panel, My Computer, My Documents etc. Installed programs run fine however and she can open her documents by going through MS Word. She has tried to use System Restore but to no avail.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong or possible solutions?

do you mean that this problem coincided exactly with the installation of spybot? or the running of it? the fixing of problems?

does she perhaps have Xupiter installed?

this so-called "program" has been known to cause this problem.

Does she get any error message when she tries to open these functions?

The problem occured after she installed and ran Spybot. Not sure if she has Xupitor installed, will have to ask. When she does try to open My Computer etc, there are no error messages, basically nothing happens as if they were not clicked to open.

nope don't think she did, asking her to check the link you posted, if that doesn't work recovery in spybot is next

i removed that link when i found it to be dead. it was very old. i can find another if she needs it. tell her to search for xupiter from start > search > xupiter

oh, i should've checked first, nevermind. she's checking recovery in spybot now
i'll refer her here if she has more questions.

she used recovery in spybot but still has the problem. will get her to expalin the problem herself in more detail

ok here am i to explain the whole situation i have got..........

first of all, i have no idea why i can't use my IE....when i open IE, it just simply disappeared but all the there are pop ups though.........just IE itself are not loaded.........so i was wondering was it infected by virus or spyware......was trying out to clean viruses and just now installed the Spybot.....after i have checked for the problems which happenned on my laptop........i fixed it and somehow other i dailed to access any other windows components ......but they works fine if i used installed program like MS word to open them.......so any ideas? and to the question wether i have Xupiter, no i don.......and i can't use search or either run..............

after the spybot recovery did you reboot?
