Is it just this game which is a problem?
    What game is it?
    Is everything else ok?
Is that the complete error message?
Also look in the Event Viewer under Application as well as System for red X errors that coincide with the HAL error:
    Start > Run > eventvwr.msc

Also in your scan I don't see a Video Card. Check under Device Manager:
    Start > Run > devmgmt.msc
check under "Display Adapters" as well as under "Sound, Video, & Game Controllers" Look for any yellow !

    Just to let you know:
    "Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL):
A component based on the Windows NT operating system that provides platform-specific support for the Windows NT kernel, I/O Manager, kernel-mode debuggers, and the lowest-level device drivers. The HAL exports routines that abstract platform-specific hardware details about caches, I/O buses, interrupts, and so forth. The HAL provides an interface between the platform’s hardware and the system software. For example, the HAL implements a routine to map each device driver's bus-relative device interrupt vector to a system-assigned vector with a corresponding platform-specific hardware priority (DIRQL). The HAL also provides several routines that provide DMA transfer support."

    Joan,

Your motherboard has on-board graphics, which means that you probably don't have a separate graphics card because it's also been built onto the motherboard, so most people would use the on-board connection. The graphics chip used on your motherboard is an "Intel Extreme Graphics" type and it looks like it's set up to use 8Mb/9Mb of your system memory (RAM) (that's why the value reported to the operating system is less than the amount of RAM physically present in the system, as seen on your hardware report posted above).

If the game that you are trying to play is one of the many modern games that only support certain types of graphics cards, you may find that it is not compatible with your on-board graphics chip. You should be able to find this out by checking the system requirements of the game. If you aren't sure, tell us what game it is (including the version) and someone here can probably help you to find out.

...... that's all assuming, of course, that it is only this game that has a problem with the graphics, as Jephree rightly asked first of all.

thanks jephree the problem does only seem to be with this one game ballistik (msn games) Direct 8.0 or higher
Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP

    belinda says:
    400 Mhz Pentium or better
    128MB RAM
    3D Video Card with 32MB
    Direct 8.0 or higher
Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP
those are the system requirmentsfor ballistik. have looked in event viewer under application and system and cannot find any errors that coinside with the hal error.have also cheaked device manager and cannot find any yellow

Was that the exact error message? (no HAL devices found' access violation code 0x00416AE9 (0x00000000)) I can find no reference to that message at all. When you say that you downloaded the game do you mean downloaded to your pc or played online?

My guess would be that you are lacking the 3D Video Card with 32MB

That was my initial thought..........but joan didn't actually state that she had played other games needing the same specs without problems. I thought this might have been the first game she had played on her PC.

joan is my mom, she does seem to have probs playing 3d games as she advised me. she downloaded Ballistik to her desktop and was playing it from there with no probs, this only appeared to happen after purchasing the game, i downloaded directx for her.
how does she get a 3d video card? this seems the most probable answer, the same answer to the probs i'm also having.
