3D Video Card with 32MBOriginally Posted by sulkybarrel
If you have a AGP slot available that is far superior to a PCI.
Read reviews; compare prices; etc.
The only other point I would make as I upgraded from an on-board chip to a card; is that you will probably have to disable the on-board chip via the Device Manager after you install the card.
hi all, have decided its time to buy a 3d graphics card. not sure which one and cannot find in manual which. help pls have visited crucial website but still unsure. thanx

Your MotherBoard
Has an AGP slot as well as PCI.
This looks like a good starting guide:
http://www.infohq.com/Computer/VideoCards.htm#ATIRAGE
Just to note one of their notes:
If your video card/computer system/ is 2 years old or older. I suggest you spend no more than $100 to upgrade your video card. Suggested upgrades would be the GeForce FX 5200 Ultra or the ATI Radeon 9600 SE.
thanx jephree,
i have looked at ATI Radeon 9600 SE and also GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
the specifications say 8x but i looked at the motherboard and it says 4x. am i still able to use the ones you suggested.
i only used that quote to point out not to spend too much on an older machine.
i like ATI cards but i think you can go "under" the 9600 although the specs will match your board:
System Requirements
* Intel® Pentium® 4/III/II/Celeron™, AMD® K6/Duron™/Athlon®/Athlon XP® or compatible with AGP 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8v) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (4X/8X).
* 128MB of system memory
* Installation software requires CD-ROM drive
* DVD playback requires DVD drive
it seems a bit pricey to me

the 7500 all in wonder (PCI) (under multimedia) will give you the min. 32MB 3D for about half the price if you can still find one; or the 9200 series.
just make sure the specs read: AGP 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8v) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (4X/8X).
Thanks jephree your help is much appreciated![]()

This is a pretty kewl site. Good $$$ too![]()
You can browse by MB & X etc.
AGP Video Cards 64 MB 4X ~just click the #'s & alter sub-categories etc.
The only explicite 4X are 64MB but it seems most 8X are backwards compatible.
You should get the specs from the manufacturer to be certain.
This is 64MB
