Hi Hellpers![]()
the problem is as follows, when i install my phone software it is supposed to automatically find the port which the phone is connected to. It Isn't.
It states 1) use free serial port. I am.
2)the port must be enabled in computer bios. I don't know? how do I check this?
3) windows must be able to recognise the port. how do I check this?
The problem may have started after installing XP SP2. But even before this I think there was a problem.

try uninstalling sp2 through ad/remove programs then try and install your phone software it may be possible that there is a conflict with sp2
2) enter your BIOS Set-up. Depending on manufacturer the key may vary, but F2 is quite common. If you get a screen from your manufacturer at power on look for Set-up F?. Or check your manual. Then tap that key repeatedly as soon as you power on, or as soon as the BIOS POST finishes. Follow your BIOS menu looking for ports.Originally Posted by sharpy
3) go to Start then Run then type in: devmgmt.msc
Look under ports. Click on particular port to see status.
Thanks
but XP SP2 is working fine, and having to manually input info into phone would be a better option for me at the minute.

the ports are turned on in the Bios and working correctly in the windows setup.
