i also know that there is an option by pressing f 10 at startup to do a recovery, but the reason my computer wont work is i think from a virus and it wont let me even do the recovery on the computer. thanks for any updates

HP Pavilions that ship with Windows XP do not always come with recovery CDs. Instead, they use a hidden space (partition) on the hard drive to store the recovery information. Using a hidden partition provides a convenient, more stable recovery process that eliminates the need for fragile CDs that can become lost.

If you would still like to obtain recovery CDs, HP provides the following options:

Contact HP Customer Care (http://productfinder.support.hp.com/tps/ContactHp) and order a set of Windows XP recovery discs.

Some HP computers have recovery CD creator software that can create one set of recovery discs. To see if your computer has HP Recovery CD Creator software, click Start, All Programs, Hewlett-Packard, and then HP Pavilion PC Tools. HP PC Recovery CD Creator is listed if the software is available. For more information, read the HP support document Creating Recovery CDs Using HP's Recovery CD Creator Software .

Finding a restore disk for your model will be tough. You might want to describe your exact problem to us and there is a good chance you could get your computer up and running without the restore disks. Explain how far the computer will boot and the exact error that occures at that point. You would be suprised how you can resurrect a computer when it looks hopeless.

Hey, save your money folks, I didn't know this, but there's a class action lawsuit against HP because of the way they build their Windows XP computers, how there's no recovery cds shipped with them. If this lawsuit goes through, HP has to send recovery cd's free of charge.
