shell.dll
Hi,
somehow I deleted 'shell.dll'
when trying to purge my computer of nasty virus/trojan/spyware/etc....and now my computer will not run certain programs without it...or install certain programs either.... These are usually older version programs that DID run on my windows XP system by using the option to run them as Windows 98.... Please help...I have tried to resolve this myself, spent many an hour...and gave up...
Thanks,
Tamera

When I click Open, it asks me how I want it to be opened.... I am at a loss..what do I use to open it...as it is just and extension..
Thanks so much,

Please follow these steps.
(1) Click Start, click Control Panel, click Folder Options.
(2) Next click View and look under Hidden files and folders and set it like I have it in the picture below. After making the changes be sure to click Apply and then OK.
(3) Now copy the file you downloaded by right clicking it and choose copy.
(4) Next click Start, click run & type the following path C:\WINDOWS\system
(5) Now click OK to open the folder and paste the SHELL.DLL file into this folder by right clicking a blank spot in the folder and clicking paste.
Next restart your computer and see if the problem is resolved, if so reverse the changes we made in step 2. Please let us know if this helps.
