should the cd-rom be the first in the sequence then you can install your o/s once that is done i think you then rearange the order of boot sequence through the bios
I did that and the same message comes on.
uummm let me have a look round on the net for a while, there are some good peolpe on this forum but they are not on it all the time so please bear with them

Alright bios finally read from the cdrom, formatted and installed the first section of windows. After the stage where is says system will reboot the next screen shows that there is an error. It is a blue screen. States Check for viruses, remove newly installed hd or drive controllers. Here is the technical info: 0x0000007B (oxF9678528, oxC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000. What the hell is going on now? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I continually receive the blue screen with the 0x000007b error. Imediatley after bios this screen comes up. How do I format the hd again? The windows xp cd is in the cdrom but the pc will not ask to me install.

Also your Hard Drive Manufacturer should have a download section on their site. There is usually a Diagnostic as well as a set-up utility available. With MaxBlast from Maxtor (for example) you can totally wipe your drive if that is desired. You can download these tools on another computer and then create a bootable floppy to boot your troubled system with.
