    Question DVD not playing films?

    Hi,

    Wondering if anyone can help. I have just bought a new pc with Pentium 4 3.2, 2 dvd drives one recordable and one reader. When I play a dvd it loads up the title and then stops when I try to play the film. The error says I should turn down the colours etc on control panel but this makes no difference. I noticed there is no dvd decoder installed either do I have to buy one? There is dvd player software. I am running on windows XP. I also want to ensure that the DVD players have multi regional facility as I have a few films from the US and UK?

    Any help appreciated?

    Thanks

    The drivers I believe are fairly new, but how do I know which ones to use? Should they be the DVD manufacturer?

    yes , if you dont know the manufacter you can either do the online hardware scan here , or use device manager ( right click on my computer , then click the hardware tab , then device manager )

    i read this is another online pc forum , it may apply ;

    You need a DVD decoder to view DVD videos, you can buy these in the store or you can go the risky route and download one from Kazaa or many other P2P programs just search DVD Decoder...Good Luck

    If the dvd decoder still does not work, then you need a region killer software, added to the dvd decoder. See, a particular DVD device and DVD disk will only work in certain regions of the world. Hollywood does this on purpose to minimize piracy. Hollywood divided the world into 6 regions, something called Regional Coding enhancement(RCE). For example, REGION 1 is restricted to US, CANADA, and US terrritories. You can find more info as well as download a region-free software at a link at http://www.dvdtalk.com/rce.html. Also, clean your temp files and minimize any background activity or program.

    Hi Chou,

    Many Thanks I tried updating using the diver cd`s given when I bought the pc but windows came back with it could not find any newer driver`s to update? I will search the internet to see if there is one. I must say I am dissapointed that when I bought the pc they never checked that the DVD`s worked before selling the pc to me.
    I believe it is more of a DVD decoder problem so I will try that? Can anyone recommend a good DVD decoder?
