HELP! No power to PC.
I'm a videographer in my spare time and was shrinking some of my edited footage using DVD Shrink which then automatically burns it onto your Blank DVD disk.
I've been using it for a while now with no problems whatsoever. I left it running overnight and this morning the burnt DVD was complete and waiting ejected on my pc. Normal. BUT my PC had turned itself off. NOT normal.
I had power to my mouse because the light was on but my PC itself will not switch on. I've checked the mains power and leads, but no-one could have touched anything. I've tried holding the power in and also the re-boot button but nothing. Please help!
Regards
John.

Hi, are you able to open your case to have a peek inside? If you can, turn the power on at the mains and look for a little light on the motherboard (the big printed circuit board inside), don't touch anything though.
If there are no lights whatsoever, were going to have to try a few more things to determine what's happened....

I'm at work at the moment and my PC is at home so I can't check, but my PC has a see through side so I'll have a look. Not all motherboards have lights on though do they. I'm not sure if mine does.

Most modern boards have at least one tiny power LCD.
First check your power point with another appliance just to make sure your getting juice from the mains. Then try using another power plug (the black kettle like lead you plug into the back of your PC) as it could simply be the fuse inside. If might be a good idea to swap the fuse anyway (if you know how).
I don't suppose you have another / old pc which you could swap the power supply?

Yes, I do have aspare mains lead. I'll try that tonight and get back to you tomorrow on that one. Thanks for your help.
