{...just another xp boot problem...}
i searched all over this site and google trying to solve this, but i can't seem to find anything. my problem is this...my grandma's computer was turned of and unplugged, then plugged back in and now it won't boot properly. when it gets to the loading windows screen (with the little green loading bar at the bottom) it hangs. it will not get past this screen. i tried booting with :last known good configeration: and :safe mode: and :boot normaly: but it just stays at this screen. I also tried repairing windows, which did not work ether. I set the bios back to default and that also didn't work. The computer detects the harddrive. I read that such an boot errer can be from a faulty harddrive or ide cable, but at this time i dont have physical acess to the computer. i am kinda stuck on what to do, i can format but i dont really want to lose all of her data. is there any assitence anybody can offer? thanks in advance.

When you say you tried to repair Windows;
Do you mean that you tried a "Repair Install" from the XP CD?
This process will leave files & data & programs intact while repairing the OS.
If this is what you tried; what happened? What error message did you get?
Here are more details:

If you want to check the Hard Drive you can get a diagnostic boot tool from the manufacturer.

yeah i tried a repair install. now whenever i try selecting an option :safemode: :last known good: , the screen turns black and the computer goes back to the boot options screen. i tried replacing the hd cable, did not work. when i try booting under :safe mode: this errer comes up "d346bus.sys" i can try formating and installing xp agian, but i feel it won't work and i dont really want to lose my data. will this work? what should i do?

read some of these threads & let us know what you think:
d346bus.sys ... seems to be a deamon tools driver.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction. it is defently dameon tools that is messing up the boot. looks like i can ether mess with the registry and rename the file, or format the computer and reinstall windows. ill try both and see if it works. doing a repair installation will not help. i'll post which one worked.
