Buggy XP
I have XP on a Compaq computer. For my work, I use a Bytescribe WavPlayer and also use an FTP browser. I had installed XPSP2 and then it made my computer act weird, so uninstalled XPSP2. Subsequently, I did a defrag and a disk clean up. After that, when I double-click on a file from which to work, my monitor blacks out, then the image reappears on the screen, with the FTP browser files blanked, as well as the WavPlayer, and the bar at the bottom of the screen w/clock, etc... then it blanks again, and then the images reappear and I can work. This has never done this before, and I'm wondering if someone can tell me why it is doing it and what I can do to remedy this.
One more question- in my Add/Remove programs, after uninstalling XPSP2, I now have a list of hotfixes in my program list- some from XPSP and then some from XPSP2. Do those belong there, can I delete them, or should I leave them alone?
Thanks very much for your help!

Do you have 'System Restore' turned on in your install of XP? If you do - can you recover to a restore point before you installed SP2?

I think I can do that-- but I'm afraid I'll lose all the work I've done in my Word, right, unless I save that. Thanks, I'll try doing that and see what happens
Appreciate the tip- Will be back w/more questions, no doubt...

If you can backup any files you want to keep first. In theory if the problem doesn't go away following a restore you should be able to restore back to today. However this doesn't always work in practice
