    Re: XP headache

No, it is different. I may be able to borrow some memory to try it out.
The memory I have in at the moment is Ebuyer budget, a lot of the reviews reckon it's not much good but it's lasted 18 months if it is that.
I have tried to use a program called Memtest but I haven't got a clue how to use it. Are their any other programs that idiots can use to test memory ?
    Thanks

Hi, Memtest needs to be used in DOS

When you download and open the .exe file it should prompt you to insert a blank floppy disk, it will then copy the relevant files needed to boot from start-up. Just keep the disk in and re-set your PC.

Make sure you perform the full thorough test - even though this can take 8-10 hours, just leave it on when you go to sleep.

If there's something wrong with the memory Memtest will find it and we can then rule it out.

I have used a program called MemTest 2.5. This ran straight from XP and did not need a boot disk. It found an error very quickly and said the RAM is faulty.

Ah, well I'm sorry to hear you need new RAM but I'm glad to hear you know what's causing the problems now
