Computer crash then stuck at boot screen
Hi there,
Just in the last few weeks my computer has been randomly crashing, not blue screen, just right off, it restarts itself immediately then it gets suck at the 'acer' boot screen, and 'del' or 'F12' to enter set up does nothing, i then have to reset it by holding down the power button. it reboots fine and i get the screen asking if i want to run in safe mode etc. then its fine after that.
I downloaded occt and it shows my gpu as running at 78-80 degrees, with the 4 cores running at 45-46 so i dont think it is a temperature problem
it may be coincidence but my dvd drive has been broken lately, it works if i put in a disk using a pin to push the drawer out but the mechanism to open the drawer automatically does not work and there are some strange noises coming from it.
can you offer any suggestions as to what can be the problem?
thanks
Mari

Leaky capacitors, failing power supply, failing motherboard. Also you don't need a DVD drive to run, so you can disconnect it completely.

all that sounds very nasty
so definately a hardware problem then? looks like i'll be shipping it off to the local pc repair man

Well, you can visually inspect for leaky capacitors - they are soda can shaped and many surround the CPU socket. If leaking, they would have a white to dark brown, dried foam oozing from them. You can swap the PSU to see if that clears the problem.
