AM running an hp m8120n with a gforce 9400gt, I have the sleep mode for the monitor set at 45 minutes. For some reason it somehow resets itself to 20 minutes at random times. Hhas anyone else come across this nuisance.

It has done it since I got vista so it's nothing new, just wondering if anyone else has come across a solution.

I know, as soon as I can I'm going to get a new pc but un til than. TIA

Never seen those settings change on their own. When they do change, does the computer sleep and wake normally?

Have you scanned for malware?

yes, computer sleeps normlly, although sometimes after I awakens I get an svchost quit responding. this has been happening over years and have reinstalled windows numerous times. One when I restored it I ran without any updates or programs installed and it didn't occur.

Just a fluke I guess. something I've gotten used to. Just thought someone might have a quick fix.


No malware or viruses. run norton internet security and have run other malware scans on a regular basis as well as Ccleaner

The only thing I can think of is an update to the graphics driver might reset the setting to the default - but that is strictly a guess.
