I wonder whether anyone can help. I cannot seem to update windows automatically. Pop up boxes keep appearing telling me that windows updates is faulty and also something called bonjour is not working for updating windows.

Copy the following commands, and then paste them into the Notepad file:

net stop wuauserv
CD %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
Ren Download Download.old
net start wuauserv


On the File menu, click Save as. In the File name box, type rename.bat, and then click All Files in the Save as type box. Save the rename.bat file to the desktop.
Double-click the rename.bat file to register the Windows Update files."

Sorry I can't help much with Vista. It was pre-loaded on my new Desktop machine, and after 2 hours I blew it away and loaded XP SP2.
