hi I have been on your virus forum and my laptop is now clean but I am still having issues, once on for about 5 mins everything freezes up to the point where I have to use the power key to restart. It appears to be ok in safe mode.
Some information about your hardware would help. Freezing can be caused by many things, which makes it difficult to troubleshoot. Common causes are heat, caused by excessive dust build up, or bad air flow through the case. A failing power supply, failing RAM, failing motherboard, are all possible causes. Being fine in Safe Mode suggests it could be driver issue. Any errors in Device Manager?
my system is
OS Version: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium , Service Pack 2, 32 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2.00GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 13
Processor Count: 2

Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 , 256 Mb

in device manager something called "consumer IR device" says windows cannot load drivers.
sorry ment to add lap top two years old, the power cable only a few months old, also its always seems to get quite hot but I dont think its any worse than usual.
I'm afraid no joy I can't find that update listed in my system many similar,
Hmmm, well, I am afraid I am at a loss then. I note one user in that link above simply disabled the device in Device Manager, rebooted and the system worked fine. You might try that.
i'm afraid it doesn't give me the option to disable button is ghosted, acer say they have an update for the driver but wont let me manually download, also java updater keeps saying its not working and turning off think its infested with gremlins, time to buy a new one ha x
ps thanks for your help anyway will let you know if i find a solution x
