It was broni that refered me to you. he has run several programs and after some work declared my system clear, I have scoured the internet and found someone suggesting turning off the weekly defrag this seems to have solved the problem. although it still crashes when I try to run defrag manually, thanks for all your time and help.

Oops. Sorry. I forgot you started this thread saying you were already there. I never run defrag automatically because I think it is counterproductive unless you clean out all the temporary Internet files first. And IMO, defrag should always be run in Safe Mode for the most efficient defragging. Still, it should not crash when run manually. I would suggest running error checking on the disk, checking both options for most thorough scanning.
