Ok, i spent the last 8 hours scouring the internet for a fairly common problem that no one seems to know hot to solve. Ive tried several different site that have the same exact problems, the pics are accurate, but the solutions dont work for me. turning off the "Audio enhancements" as some people say doesnt fix it either. ive started it in safe mode and it runs fine then, no spikes or even CPU usage from the svchost.exe that spikes. it has something to do with the plug and play feature, because when i turn it off the CPU calms down, but it also shuts the computer down a few moments later due to instability. Ive run all the proper spyware/malware software and they only came up with a few cookies, so its not a virus. The DLL that makes the thing peak is RPCRT4.dll ( start address is RPCRT4.dll!NdrTypeFlags+0x400) but i have no idea what that goes to or how to stop it from sapping the system. Im working off a HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop with AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Tech. TL-60 2.0 GHz with 4 GB of ram, Vista Home Premium. If this problem has already been solved, please point me in that direction, if not, any help would be greatly appreciated because i know other people are having the same problems i am. Just ask if you need more info on the problem or my computer. Thanks again!
Hi Drew and welcome to D-A-L. These problems are caused by a variety of things, which makes tracking them down difficult. I recommend using Process Explorer, like Task Manager on steroids, to see what is using each svchost session, then perhaps you can track it down to the specific culprit.
Like i said, its the Plug and Play service, specifically RPCRT4.dll!NdrTypeFlags+0x400 and 2 other variants, as seen in the picture i have attached. if i suspend them, everything settles down it the comp runs fine, i just wont open any programs or run anything properly. Safemode also kills it, and runs perfectly, only problem is safemode wont run any of the major programs i like to use, or at least at the highest quality.
