Hi, I was having a look at my Mam'a laptop because it was running slow and decided to put in different RAM (I thought it only had 512mb of RAM) but when i opened it I found there was 2 RAM sticks, both 512mb, but one wasn't in right so naturally enough I thought this is why it's running slow and pushed the stick into place but then the trouble started. I turned on the laptop and all I got was a black screen and the capslock blinking away. I swapped the RAM sticks around, problem still there. I tried one at a time and found that one slot is causing the blinking problem but with just one stick in the other slot the laptop wont turn on, just gives a black screen. Any ideas what's going on that it won't run with just the one RAM stick? Is 512mb not enough for the laptop to run?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok this problem has been sorted.

have another one, on a different laptop. my sister was using her laptop this morn, said she got a white screen with black dots. turned it off and on and got a black screen. a while later it turned on no problem, was working grand. since then i've tried turning it on, been getting nothing but a black screen but i can hear the hard drive workin away. just there now when i turned it on i got 3 or 4 loud beeps then it turned off on its on. what could be causing this? she has no antivirus, could it be a virus?

it's ok, everything is working again on both laptops
