vista won't boot - even is safe mode
I let someone onto my PC to use word, but the document froze. Rather than leave it they switched off at the switch-on button. When I switched on I got the Vista m/s bar along the bottom, but rather than welcome screen I got a blue screen (not the blue screen of death), and only the cursor is visible (and moves with the mouse) - nothiing else on the screen.
Switched off, and tried to recover to last working version - as above.
Then tried safe mode - loads all the drivers (finishes at disk.sys), but stops at a black screen with the words "safe mode" in each corner of the screen, and the cursor showing.
I don't have recovery CDs - the recovery partition is on the disk.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rannoch

Fixed.
I got a loan of a Vista CD. In fact two - one for a Dell, and one a retail m/s CD.
HP would not look at the Dell, but did recognise with the m/s one.
Booted from CD, choose repair, it found a start-up fault asked to correct it, OK, and re-boot.
Working.

Hi,
Can you post the entire blue screen error please.

No errors - just a blue screen. Not the bsod.

Have you ran a test on the hard drive? I've got the same problem right now and don't know what to do... I ran a test on the ram and a hard drive test and the ram test passed but the hard drive test failed....
