The speaker icon has a red X and a message says no audio output device installed
I went to device manager and it does not show any audio info
I have a hp pavilion dv2715nr laptop.
Please help!
Hi DDSki63
If this problem as just occurred go to System Restore and restore your PC
back to a time when your sound was working.
How on system restore here http://www.vista4beginners.com/System-Restore
Do you have a drivers disc with your laptop.
If so then install your sound drivers from that.
If you have no drivers CD/DVD then download the drivers from here
Select software and drivers HP Pavilion dv2715nr Entertainment Notebook PC - HP technical support (United Kingdom - English)
Download them to desktop. Now double click on the file to install your laptop drivers.
If you have any problems with this then please post back.

Thanks Jim for getting back to me so soon. Sorry to say I already tried the two things you said. The restore point didn't work. When I tried to down load new drivers I get a message that no media device is available for this driver. Any other ideas!
Thanks again
Denise
Hi Denise
When you say ". When I tried to down load new drivers I get a message that no media device is available for this driver"
Do you get this message when you try to download the driver?
Or after you've downloaded the driver and try to run it?
Could you tell me in a step by step way what you are doing when the message appears.
I ask because the message suggests that the driver cannot see your audio board.
If that is the case then it would suggest the board may be faulty.
So I need to be sure before I go through steps to check this.
Jim
This is the process I took:
1. download
2. wizard starts
3. check agreement
4. ask to save files in c:\swsetup\SP37858
5. files are extracting
Now during extraction I get a message saying Access is denied. I click ok
Another message comes up: red X with Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver
Thanks again,
Denise
Hi Denise
It looks looks like you Laptop audio card is either faulty or it not connected correctly.
Because when the software drivers try to install they cannot find your audio card.
They cannot see the audio card because of the 2 possible options above.
So the first question is do you have any kind of warranty on the laptop?
If so you need to start procedures to get it repaired under that warranty.
If not then unfortunately to remove and replace the audio card (to test if it is a poor connection)
involves removing and then replacing a lot of the laptops components.
I can give you a link to detailed step by step information on how to access the audio
card and check if its loose or poorly connected.
I personally would prefer to buy a new card and replace it because its a lot of work to
remove and replace all the components then reseat the audio card only to find it still
does not work.
The final option is to take it to your local computer technician and let them check your laptop out.
Sorry I can't offer more positive help but with the software drivers are unable to find your
audio card I see few alternatives to the ones I've laid out.
Jim
Thanks for all your help. I wouldn't mind at least looking at the link if you can send it to me.
Thanks again.
Denise

3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and
then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.

5. Remove the following components:
a. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 61)
b. WLAN cover (see WLAN module on page 65)

d. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 74)
e. Switch cover (see Switch cover on page 79)
f. Display assembly (see Display assembly on page 82)
