Hi, I have a Dell XPS laptop that I bought new last March 2009. It has windows vista home premium on it. I used it on Sunday all day to do taxes, surf the net, etc. The only thing I did differently was load an epson printer on it. Forward to Wednesday night and I cannot log on to it. When I turn it on, it goes to the screen to put in my password, then after a few minutes of "thinking" it comes up with a black screen and error message that reads "c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desk top is not accessible. Access is denied"

I called Dell and they had me do a restore back to Sunday afternoon, which didn't work, he took control of my laptop and tried to click on some stuff to get things to stop running in the backround and cancel some of the automatic updates that took place and nothing worked. They wanted to transfer me to software support because he thought it was a "registry problem" and they wanted to charge $253 to troubleshoot over the phone with me...I said No Thanks!!

Can you get into Safe Mode by tapping F8 on boot up ABC?

Yes, I can get into Safe Mode, Dell had me log into safe mode to do the restore.
