Hi, I am having problems with vista 64 bit when using internet. This problem was that originally my mouse would freeze and then the system would lock up.
I have finally sorted out the problem by trial and error.install and uninstall etc.
I am on on dsl2 and have a wireless connection .
To stop the lockups etc I am using a cat 5e networking cable and it runs like a charm.
trouble is I want a wireless connection in the true sense, no cables attached to my computer. There are three other computers using my wireless modem and they run fine without cables. Why is it that mine runs minus the cable but locksup etc a dozen or so times every time I am on the net?I have to reboot continually.
As I said before I dont want cables on the floor and want to run my system like the other three. My system ran fine under winxp but since Vista was installed I have this problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
My system config. i7 920 processor,6gb ddr3 ram,1gb graphics card and 1gb hard drive.
they are the basics.
Once again any advice would be appreciated.
TIA roberthm
Did you install new 64-bit Vista drivers for the adapter? Things that affect wireless performance include:
Distance to WAP (wireless access point)
Walls, floors, ceilings
Big metal objects near by
Other electronic devices near by (microwaves, refrigerators, TVs)
Antenna orientation (for adapter and WAP)
Hi Digerati,Thank you for the quick response.
I have been advised by the firm that upgraded my system that the latest drivers are installed.I doubt that but am not sure how to check and install.
As for ceiling heights ,microwave ovens etc they should not be a worry.
My new system is in exactly the same position, nothing at all has changed except my operating system. I upgraded from winxp pro to vista business 64 bit.
As for the other three computers two (laptops ) and one desktop no changes in positions etc.The two laptops run vista 64 bit ultimate and the desktop is a pent 4 3.4gh running xp pro.
Whenever I try to get a driver for the wireless card I get redirected on to third parties who supply at a cost.As I am a retired pensioner I am not loaded with money and feel reluctant to have to pay for a stuff up by someone else.
Anyway I will keep trying to sort out the problem.
Thank you once again for your advice.

Not heights, but the number and composition of ceilings, floors, and walls between the computer and the access point. However, since you say that has not changed, it should not be a factor. But if the adaptor has an external antenna, you might try changing the orientation. As for ceiling heights
It does not matter how much money you have, the hardware makers provide drivers for free so no one should have to pay for them. The problem is hardware makers may not develope drivers for older hardware. I suspect since you can connect, the drivers were updated. You should be able to see the driver version in Device Manager.I am not loaded with money and feel reluctant to have to pay for a stuff up by someone else.
