    Lost a hard drive!

Hi, somehow, ive lost drive E:. The second hard drive in my laptop, disk management recognises it, but I cant seem to get it to do anything. I've tried system restore, no dice, everytime i try to do anything, it says that diskmanagement's view is out of date. I really need this drive back, cus it has a lot of stuff on it!

    Please help!

It says I can activate the partition, but if "it the partition lacks an operating system, marking it active might cause your computer to stop working"..

Is it safe to turn it on?

    Edit:

Ok, ive tried to delete the volume and make a new one, but im still getting the "window is out of date" message

    Any suggestions?

First off this is a partition on your hard drive as you only have one hard drive.

If your data is important do not try to delete or change it.

I'd suggest first off a System Restore to a point prior to the issue.

That was one of the first things I tried. I've been talking with some tech mates and they are saying Windows isnt recognising it, and that I should use a UbuntuLive CD. But I have no idea about Linux.

And as for the data, I have a backup, so it can be deleted

Edit: Somehow, overnight my computer sorted itself out and allowed me to reformat the partition as NTFS. Dont ask my how, it just did. So my advice, turn your computer off for the night and let it sort itself out lol. Thanks for trying to help
