I have tried to do what has been suggested to get my desk top icons back onto my main screen by following restart hijack then ticking r1 box and 04 box then fix checked, boot in safe mode delete file then reboot.
But my problem is that i dont have either of the R1 and 04 files in hijack so what do i do?
Please someone help me cause i dont know what else to do.
Any advice would be a great help.

Thanks for the information and i have installed the new Hijack This Program i have tried to manually restore the computer which was successful in restoring it to 7/12/09 and also to 28/12/09 BUT i am still unable to restore my Toshiba Pro 400 laptop to before the desk top icons disappeared off of the main screen. SO WHAT DO I DO NOW? CAN ANYONE HELP? or is this an impossible task?

What is the exact model? The only Toshiba Pro I find is the Satellite Pro 400 which ran Windows '95.

We have no idea what you removed with HJT but if you removed all 04's then you removed all startup items.

Can you press the Windows key + R then type explorer.exe

Does that bring it back?

If not do you have a Recovery CD or DVD for this laptop?
