Thumbs down Partitioning C Drive without formatting OS?

    Hi again,

I've purchased HP Touchsmart IQ504 last week, it has 320Gb HDD with single partition(C drive with HP Recovery drive). I want to make 2 more partitions from that C drive without formatting my OS (Vista Home Premium 64Bit).
Is there any solutions? Reply appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Raj

The first thing you need to do is backup all your data and be prepared to start over with a complete install - just in case something does not go right.

Then, purge the hard drive of clutter with Windows Vista Disk Cleanup, ATF Cleaner or CCleaner. If using CCleaner, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar during installation. Before first use, go to Options > Settings > Advanced and ensure Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours is unchecked. Know your site credentials (user names and passwords) for sites you frequent before cleaning; you may have to login again at next visit.

Finally, run through all your malware scans to make sure your system is clean, and working fine.

Then, there are several partitioning programs that can do what you want. The most popular are Partition Magic and Acronis True Image. I recently used EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition, which is free for home, non-commercial use, was easy to use, and worked great.

Note: Besides flashing the BIOS, there is probably no worse time for a power outage than during a repartitioning. I always recommend all computers be on an UPS with AVR at all times - and reiterate that recommendation now.
