Recovering data from a laptop with a borken screen

My laptop screen recently started to crash. It would happen randomly and usually would sort itself out after a few seconds. Today it just died. Completely. The laptop itself however is still working. I can hear the boot up process and stuff like that. It’s just the screen.

Knowing that fixing such a problem is unreasonable (better to buy a new laptop), I would like to extract some data from the hard drive. I don’t have an external monitor to which I can connect my laptop. But I do have a Windows XP desktop. I was wondering if there is a cable which I can use to connect my laptop to the pc and maybe use it like an external hard drive to salvage some info.

    Is it possible?

Oh man. I was hoping it was something like sticking some USB cables in. Don't feel comfortable with dismantling my laptop in case I wan't to one day send it to a repair. Well, I'll give it a shot anyway. When I get a new mashine. The information on my laptop was not crucial. So I don't mind if it gathers dust for a few months.

However, I will save the link for the future. Thank you for the reply.

Well you would be able to use a cable to connected the 2 but you would have to able to access the source in order to enable sharing with the other computer. Would you really want it as simple as connecting a cable? That would make it too easy for the bad guys.
