    Thumbs down wmpnscfg.exe

I found this process running in task manager or process explorer (I forgot which). After researching it I know that it is a legit program associated with WMP 11. I know someone will have a problem with this I know that I don't need it so I don't want it to run. HOWEVER I can't figure out how to stop it from running. I tried following this but "media sharing" doesn't show up under the library tab and "configure sharing" is grayed out in WMP options --> library. I have it disabled through winpatrol so it doesn't show up under msconfig and I still had to delete the registry key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run but it still runs. Also, like suggested in that article, I went to the DisableDsicovery key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\P references\HME to edit that key but it doesn't exist. I've googled it but that article summarizes everything else I've read except that someone suggested under another forum to restart in diagnostic mode under which it doesn't run but neither does anything else important. I also read to disable any media player entries under IEs add-ons but that doesn't work either. The only other thing I could think of was that have zone alarm kill it but it still runs. WTF? I've also tried looking through task schedular and group policy editor and didn't find anything. So does anyone know how to keep it from running? Please don't fail me. I know I shouldn't delete it.

    Did you check services.msc?

Yes. The article I found lists Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service (wmpnetwk.exe) as being related but that is disabled. In fact it won't even start. When I try to start it windows says that it "...was started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they aren't in use by other services and programs." I was hoping that if this was going then the sharing options in WMP's options wouldn't be shadowed out. I even set it to automatic and rebooted and it didn't start. There isn't anything else related to WMP.

Download Autoruns for Windows: Autoruns for Windows
    No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Export As, and save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
Attach the file to your next reply.

I wonder if it is also related to windows media center which I do use to watch dvds occasionally. I didn't read anything about that though. I'm wanting to keep this from running because I don't use wmp. I have a vmware virtual machine of vista buisness and it doesn't have that process running.

There is no wmpnscfg.exe running, so you have to say, where you can see it.

It isn't running because I killed it. Do you need for me to reboot?

Yes, please, and post new Autorun log (attached file is better for me).

Here ya go. I had to put it into a zip. It is too big for the file type.
