    Vista SP2 Video Playback Error

    Greetings D-A-L community.

It has been a while ever since I last visited on 13-02-2009 at 8:03 PM. This community has been a great help to me in the XP reign; however I recently received a gift from my uncle who bought me a laptop(I have use desktop all my life until now) with Windows Vista Home Basic on July 5, 2009 at Staples.

    ---------------------------------------------
Here are the spec' of the laptop:
    Acer Aspire 5516
    15.6 HD LCD
    AMD Athlon 64 TF-20 Processor
    2 GB Memory
    160 GB Hard Disk
    ATI Radeon X1200
    8x DVD SuperMulti
    Multi in one Card Reader
    etc.
    ----------------------------------------------

I had no experience with Vista before so I use Window Update on Vista and founded that there was a Service Pack 2 for Vista. So exactly at that date(7/5/09), I installed Vista Service Pack 2 and went through all the stages fairly quickly. It did a reboot and went to Stage 3. Thus this is another problem, but I will explain this as it might related to my video problem. When Stage 3 was 100%, it said that the service pack install failed and was revert back the change. However, when I logged in and saw in the system info that my Vista was in service pack 2. Weird.

Then, BANG! I was stung. Normally, I could watch videos in Service Pack 1 (I watch a few before the update was done.) and it works fine. However, when Service Pack 2 was added, online streaming videos are fine, but in computer videos(for example, sample video installed in computer) sound only play and picture in video doesn't show. I have all my codec pack reinstalled and players such as VLC,MPC, etc. editted, but to no avail.

Thus, I returned to D-A-L, I now I await a reply from YOU.

    ~Thank you.~

I think, something went wrong with SP2 installation.
    I'd uninstall/reinstall.

Yes I'm also sure that you had a problem with the installation. Please don't think that you can't play video with SP 2. You could try installing it from a manual download instead of an automatic install. Those downloads haven't failed me yet. Please note that you much choose the correct version for your operating system. Right click on computer and select properties and look for it to say either 32 bit or 64 bit operating system. If it says 32 bit you download the x86 version. If it says 64 bit chose the x64 version. Don't be thrown off by it also listing 2008 server because the same file will install SP 2 on both systems. Don't worry about the ISO or the ia64 versions.

I will try to uninstall Service Pack 2.
Do I really need the Service Pack 2 since I don't really want to install it again...

It is always best to have the latest service pack for any of their products and especially their operating systems and MS added some new features to SP2. Wikipedia.

When I try to uninstall it, it said that not all updates could be deleted.

    BTW I can't scroll now

EdIt: I reboot, and can scroll.
I don't know if this help, but everything I shutdown it goes to install service pack stage 2 of 3 and stay at 0 percent and then reboot and when vista logo on start appear it say stage 3 of 3 0 percent and then I can log on. Although I check with system, it said that I already have sp2 installed.

Does give a reason or an error code? Have you tried a restore point?

I search for a restore point and found that the service pack did not have one and was not in the hard drive.

It gave an error that not all the updates were "successfully" uninstalled.
