    Question Power settings reset ??

    Hi ,

This has been bugging me for a couple of days now . I left my pc on the other evening whilst leaving a download running . When I came to use my tower I realised that the power light was flashing intermittently . No move to screen from mouse , I went to press the power off key and the login screen appeared - suggesting the computer had been asleep . I had all settings set to never switch off as I'm mostly sat at my PC anyway .
I've not run or downloaded anything apart from a film or two and the only program I thought might have affected the settings was a system optimiser that I use . I've run that since to check and it hadn't changed anything after resetting everything .

    Any suggestions ?

    Vista Ultimate SP2
    4 Gig DDR2
    Nvidia 9500 XT
    Intel Core2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33 Ghz

Don't know and hard to tell if it has not happened again. Some power button behavior settings are configured in the BIOS Setup Menu and stored in CMOS. If it happens again and no cause in the OS is apparent, I might swap the battery - which will reset the BIOS in the process. Upon first boot with new battery, go directly into the BIOS Setup Menu and check the drives, boot order, power settings, and date and time. Then Save and Exit to set the checksum and boot normally. Then see if it happens again. Be sure to unplug from the wall. And touch bare metal of the case before reaching in to discharged any static in your body.

This all assumes your system is malware free and you have a good http://www.d-a-l.com/help/windows-xp...computing.html discipline.

That doesn't help any one cyberjunkee! How about sharing what you learned so all of us can benefit from your experience? What ended up being the problem? How was "everything reset"? What is "everything"?
