Mpeg has no sound on Laptop but does on Camcorder

    Hi,

I use a JVC Everio Hard Drive Camcorder. I normally take my videos, drag and drop onto my laptop and all is well but since yesterday there is no sound on the download but there is on the camcorder.
Other Mpegs that i have previously downloaded work fine.
I am using a Dell XPS M1330 with Vista. I have done updates and various scans but nothing seems to resolve the problem. I have even been to Dell to do driver updates but still no joy.
    Can anyone help me please

    Many thanks.

    Probably some codecs issue.
See, if VLC Player works fine: VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player

    Hi,

i have installed VLC and opened the MPEG with the programme but now I see nothing as well, the player doesn't seem to open in a window that is viewable, it just shows a bar that something is playing but again no sound.

    Thanks.

Sorry forgot to add that when I open in Windows Media Player it does say 'Codec Acquired'

Once again thanks for your help.

It must be something wrong with that particular video, because VLC Player has all codecs built in.
Can you try same file on another computer

Tried the vdeo on a desktop and it worked ok there. The desktop is also running Windows Media Player version 11.

Maybe it's worth uninstalling Windows Media Player and installing again ?

WMP can always been reinstalled on top of itself. Worth a try.

Finally problem solved. Somewhere I discovered an AC3 Filter Codec was missing.

Thanks to all for your help
