Windows would not have released it if they though there were any issues.

As with any update a Restore Point will be created in case any issue occurs.

Where is the best place to get SP2? that self installs an cleans up after itself like Windows Auto Update?

MS usually does not release Service Packs immediately to Auto Updates as many companies prefer to install Service Packs at their own discretion.

I have not heard when it will go auto.

    The manual download is here:

Download details: Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - Five Language Standalone (KB948465)

Someone here that they got an automatic notification but I read that it would be a few weeks before they release to automatic updates. Anyway the manual download works. I didn't have a problem with the install nor have I had a problem since. Actually I have never used automatic updates for a service pack but only the download. I recommend that you back up your data first. You do need to make sure that you get the version correct. Right click on computer --> properties. Look for system type to find out if your version is 32-bit or 64-bit and download accordingly. Jephree's link is for the 32-bit also known as x86. If you have the 64-bit version of Vista you will need the x64 installer.
