My OS is Vista Ultimate 32 bit, which I just got on a new laptop the other day.. it's an ACER 8930G (944G64Bn)..
I've never had any problems with Windows media player 11 on XP on my previous PC.
Any advice would be appreciated cheers.

Please tell us what MP 11 is doing. What you put is a bit ambiguous. Please also tell us what kind of movies that you are trying to play. Have you installed all of the windows updates especially the MP updates? You might think about taking it to the store that you got it from.
Not videos or movies m8, I use the WMP11 for a Play list of about 700 mp3s, I listen to music on it whilst I'm browsing the web. The laptop I'm using has powerful specs, video card and processor etc.. and according to the Task Manager my CPU usage is never much over 20% full even with multiple windows open so I know it's a snag in the WMP, the mp3s can jump slightly at times, not much but often enough for me to want to fix the WMP. The jumps occur mostly when I'm opening new windows in web pages. The WMP is fully up to date.
I was hoping there would be a fix or a patch or something but no joy..
What do you mean by jump?
Try reinstalling it on top of itself:
Windows Media Player 11
Have you tried any other program to play the files?
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers? What is the make/model and specs of your computer? If you don't know you can run our hardware scan linked on the top of the page and post back the link that it gives you. Oh have you installed SP 2?
