    Dual Monitor issue

I believe this is the right place to post this, if not please move it.

I'm running vista 64 on my laptop and recently just bought a new monitor. I plugged it in and set it up to run independently and set the correct resolution and all that jazz but there is just one thing that is bothering me. Unless I have a video open on the second monitor, it runs at 1680x1050, which is the laptop screen resolution, instead of 1920x1080. When it runs on the smaller res it doesnt fill up the screen so there are black bars surrounding the image but again, it runs just fine if a video is open.

Any ideas? If that didn't make sense just ask and I'll try and explain it differently

    Thanks

Right click on the desktop and choose personalize --> display settings. You should be able to specify the resolution that you want for each monitor.

Some graphics cards come with the ability to run the monitors at different resolutions as an option within their own display controls. What kind do you have?

I have a 9600M GT and yeah I have both monitors set at their respective resolutions but the new one only displays at 1920x1080 if there is a video file open and displaying on it. Otherwise, it only displays everything in a 1680x1050 box.

I made a video to show you what I mean is wrong. I filmed it on my phone so its bad quality buy it shows the screen change.

There is no download link for that file. Would I have to create an account because I don't want to do that. What you can do is put it in a zip file and upload it here.

From the control access the nvidia control panal (or do so from the start menu if there is an entry) and from there you should be able to force the monitor to display at the correct resolution. You might have to update your drivers.

I'm having trouble attaching a file so trying a different host. Also going to try updating my drivers.
