I have a USB drive connected and I use it for ReadyBoost, even though I have 3 GB RAM. Are you sure that this error is because of a USB drive? For me to think that this would cause Vista to crash on the recycle bin is crazy.

Well just see if it makes a difference without it.
Right clicking activates the "shell" of windows explorer so although a simply task it is a core function.
As to your error:
FriendlyName Microsoft WPD FileSystem Volume Driver
Location (unknown)
InstanceId WPDBUSENUMROOT\UMB\2&37C186B&1&STORAGE#VOLUME#1&19 F7E59C&0&_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_APPLE&PROD_IPOD&REV_ 1.62#000A270013061DEC&0#
I see now that it can't be my USB memory stick because:
InstanceId WPDBUSENUMROOT\UMB\2&37C186B&1&STORAGE#VOLUME#1&19 F7E59C&0&_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_APPLE&PROD_IPOD&REV_ 1.62#000A270013061DEC&0#
I do have an iPod Classic which I sync with my computer, but it is not connected all the time. Maybe an error with the Ipod previously has caused Vista to be irresponsive sometimes somehow. I performed a disk check on my iPod and no errors were found. What then can I do to correct the problem?

Well if you can force crashes at will keep crashing it and see if the same error comes up or if different errors come up etc.
How am I supposed to force it to crash?
Do whatever it was you did before.
Right click the Recycling bin?
I have looked at the problem reports and solutions and it shows the same error for every time explorer has crashed:

I had no other choice but to do a full reinstall of Vista so I did that and it has fixed the problem. Thank you for your help in solving this problem.
Wow. Okay. Thanks for the update. Sorry you had to go to that extreme but now you have a fresh start.
Let us know if we can help further in the future.
It wasn't too much bother really, just backed up my documents then used the HHD recovery tool to restore Vista to its original state; then transferred by documents again and reinstalled the programs I had installed. If I have anymore problems I will let you know. Running good as new at the moment.
