understanding user accounts
Need someone to explain this to me.
I thought when you set up a user account in windows. that account could run it's own programs seperately from the admin account. if so why do I have access to photoshop which was installed in the admin account and all of its data,"photos." Is there a way to have the,"photos only available it the respective accounts?
I hope I've made sense. TiA

Yes, but first what is your operating system? On all windows systems 2000 and newer administrative accounts have access to all of the other user's personal documents folder (known as a user's shell folder unless that is blocked. I believe that generally standard users and other non administrators have access to only their documents folder by default and not to other user's shell folder. They probably would however have access to folders that aren't any user's shell folder as well as the "public documents" folder. Does that make any sense? Anyway I need to know what OS you have because protecting a user's shell folder is different in XP than in 2000, 2003, and Vista. It is actually simpler. Now if you have Windows 95/98/ME there is no folder restriction.
Now of course blocking a user's shell folder doesn't help anything if the user's profile isn't password protected.
Now the thing is that if someone knows what they are doing and has access to an administrator account they can break into other user's shell folder so if it is your computer then you would want to be in control of all of the administrative accounts and have those accounts password protected. I cannot tell you how to break into a folder because that would be against our TOS. Now you tell me what OS you have and I'll try to help you restrict folder access.

If one is posting under the Vista section would you not presume Vista?
Vista has very specific settings requiring "Run as Administrator".

Have you already created a new profile? If no follow the directions on the link. I'll check back this afternoon. You must be running as an administrator or have the password of an administrative account.
