    Re: Vista Updates constantly restarting

'fixboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

ok. Back to check disk try:

    chkdsk /p

If you get the same error then I'm running out of ideas short of a repiar install.

I am also running out of my office for an hour or so but will return.

Also maybe someone else will have an idea.

    'invalid parameter - /p'

it looks like its going to have to be a format of the auld C: drive and a new installation
ill look into other options and leave the format for a few days thanks for your help jephree (Y)

Check out this Microsoft Article on how to deal with the endless reboot cycle. It sounds like you've already gone through the first 2 methods so concentrate on the 3rd.

I had this happen but fortunately I have XP on my computer so I didn't need my Vista disk so I don't know for sure if it works like that but once I renamed the mentioned file it worked. I hope this helps.

Click the Start button, choose All Programs, then choose Windows Update. You’ll see the Windows Update window.

    2. Choose Change Settings from the leftmost pane.

    3. There you can change installation time, turn of auto update options ETC. Make your changes as you like and then click OK to apply the settings.

you can also view Windows vista update history from your control Panel. To see update vista update history go to control Panel > windows update > view Update History

    or

You can right Click on My Computer and Select Windows Update and then click on let me choose or select Never check for Updates.

The member created this thread because he could only only run his computer after telling windows to do last known good configuration. Currently, all we know is that he cannot access Windows at all except through a command line from his system disk [see post 5]. So, this does not help him because he needs to be able to access windows before he can do this. We appreciate users helping by giving advise but it must be relevant advice. Please carefully read all of the posts of a thread so that you'll know what advise you need to give. It helps nothing to give advise that the user cannot possibly follow!!! This is only something he might possibly consider after he is able to access windows.

JBizzle we await a post on our status.
