    unresponsive system

    Hi
I have several problems with m system. Since two months ago, I 've had some problems with the windows update. It stops at the "configuring updates, step 1 of 3" and every time I have to go to recovery centre and restore to a previous day. But the last time I did this, my computer slowed down alot. It is totally unresponsive. Like I can't install anything, windows update and security centre doesn't open and when I click on them the windows freeze. I couldn't even run the error checking of drive C or defrag.
Also I can't open the windows\temp folder. It denies permission. I tried the security tab in the properties of thefolder and under the owner it is written unable to display the current owner.
I hope you guys can help me!

Do you have an earlier Restore Point you can try?

I restored but the system is still the same.
I can install some of the softwares(to check the hard drive errors) in safe mode but I can't install anything from Microsoft cause they don't run in safe mode.

Have you tried a virus scan in safe mode?

I tried AVG and also scanned with vista security centre and there was no infection.

    Who made your hard drive?

If you don't know look under the Device Manager

(right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager)

Click the + next to Disk Drives. What is listed?

Also have you run Check Disk:

    CHKDSK
    --------------------------------------------------
    Try running Check Disk:

Go to start Run... and type: cmd

    Then type: chkdsk /f

You will be told the volume is in use do you want to run chkdsk on next boot? Type: Y and reboot.

I 've had it for more than 15 months. And it came with vista. I had never had a problem before this

That is a Seagate drive. I'd suggest running SeaTools for DOS.

    Seagate Technology - SeaTools

It will require making an ISO CD. If you need assistance with that please ask. The Seagate site also has instructions.

This will test whether or not the issue is a mechanical one with your hard drive.

Again prior to this you can try Check Disk as posted above.
