Hey all, I just got my brand new laptop. It's a Dell, unfortunately, but it's working great.

I just have a few problems, if someone would help me out please. I'll try to get a screenshot as soon as this problem happens again, as it randomly appears.

Here's some specs of my monster:
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium
Memory: 2047MB RAM
Disk Space: 288GB
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00GHz - 1995Mhz

The taskbar always messes up. It seems to get doubled, pushed to the left, and pixelated severely. I don't really know how to explain it, but it's really weird. The task bar is totally messed. I'm sure there's a fix for it somewhere, so if anyone knows how to fix it, please help!

The other thing, I have been downloading a free RPG game called Anarchy Online. I minimized it to the system tray, and then I had the taskbar problem stated above. I ended the explorer.exe process, and restarted it, and the Anarchy Online icon is not there, but it still shows up in the task manager. How do I get this icon opened again, because I need to check the status of the download.

Do you have SP1?

As to the game "End Task" then restart.

Here is a possible issue:

The Windows desktop may stop updating correctly after a Windows Vista-based computer has been running for an extended period of time

You could also see if it acts the same way with the Areo GUI turned off.

Did you have this problem from the first time you turned it on?

Have you added any software?

Yeah, I did an update and it installed SP1. I have added a lot of software though.
I tried turning the Aero GUI off, but the icon for Anarchy Online still doesn't display in the taskbar.
I did have this problem a little while after I turned the PC on.

Does turning off Aero fix the other problems?

As to the game it is currently downloading? Is that correct? I am not familiar with it but again if you End Task you should be able to start a new download.

What is the exact Dell model? Have you called Dell?

I'm not really sure. The problem only happens randomly, so I'd have to wait and see if it changed anything or fixed it.

It's a Dell Studio 17 laptop. I haven't called Dell about it. Don't worry about the game problem, I got that fixed. I just waited until it got done downloading, haha.

Well, I just installed the hotfix that you suggested above, and so far it's working just fine. I will take a screenshot if it happens again and post it here. Thanks for the help!

Yep...I use that Dell site extensively as the company I work for uses Dell products. I get to play with all the new Dell products...just in the process of setting up a new Dell Precision M6400 for one of our Engineers. Man I love my job
