Many programs crash when starting
My brother's computer had this really strange problem. Programs like Media Player Classic Homecinema, Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer, Phun, GTA 4, All F.E.A.R games display the "XXX.exe has stopped working" error or simply loads for a split-second and disappears.
All these happened after installing an NVidia driver, Burnout Ultimate Paradise Trial though I suspect malware because Symatech and Spybot S&D displayed alerts of downloaders.
I posted it here first just in case the problem is not related to the malware. If it is, feel free to move this thread to the Viruses and Spyware board.

System Restore
--------------------------------------------------
You might try a System Restore to a point prior to your problem:
start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
If that does not help then try HijackThis:
HijackThis
--------------------------------------------------
Please read THIS and after completing the steps outlined post a HijackThis log over in that section along with a brief description of your problem.
Do not post HijackThis logs in this section please.

The security / spyware section of D-A-L works a little differently to the rest of the site. We currently only allow Head Security staff to reply to others threads to ensure a high level of support and quality is maintained with the daily issues which require a certain level of knowledge in this area.

I agree with the above post.

Tried a system restore, didn't work.
Before I got to make a HijackThis log, my brother tried following instructions from other sites and accidentally set the "Data Execution Prevention" to act on all programs causing the system to startup to a black screen with just the cursor and the message about LogonUI.exe unable to start.
I tried using the Vista Recovery Disc(not the install disc) that I downloaded and the computer just stops with a beeping sound.
Nothing works, safe mode doesn't work, none of the F8 boot settings work. This is posted from the ExpressGate OS in the motherboard.

First off following instructions or ideas from multiple sites is not a good idea.
As I have no idea what someone else advises and or what is being done to the computer it makes it very hard for me to help.
Anyway at this point:
What is the make and model of the computer?
Can you enter the BIOS?
Are you confirming you have an install disk?
Can you boot this disk?
-
The computer is built by a local computer builder.
Yes, I can enter the BIOS.
I found out that the reason for the beeping is a corrupted disc. I made another copy of the recovery disc and it loaded fine.
The recovery disc is basically a Vista installation disc but without the install files.
After loading, I tried a system restore from the recovery disc but the system is still the same.
The full error is Error with LogonUI.exe Access Violation of ?x???????? referenced at ?x????????. The address cannot be "written". Or something like that.
I tried running the memory diagnostics tool and tried another OS to make sure that it wasn't a malfunctioning RAM problem and it started fine.

At this point is there a reason you would not or could not reinstall Vista?
