You guys are my last hope!!
Hi,
Im new to this site so please forgive my ignorance if this topic has been covered before.
I have an old hard drive from my old xp laptop and wanted to extract it from there and put onto my new dell vista pc. i purchased a usb caddy and plugged it all in. The hard drive showed up no problem, but every folder i went into it said i needed permission to access "click here to access" which wasnt a problem as long as i could get in. The problem then becomes more difficult because no matter what i do, even though i have been allowed access to the folders, i cannot view word documents, music files, pictures etc. Everytime, it comes up with the same message "i dont have permission to view file from this location". it says i need to be an administrator which i already am, there are no passwords to restrict viewing, and i am totally at the end of my tether. There are some sentimental pics on here and i would really appreciate someones help in accessing this info.
Apologies if its something simple

Well it is hard to say if it is a Vista issue or an XP issue.
The "Run As Administrator" is certainly a Vista tag but when you slave an XP drive XP also has issues which are covered here:

i have just tried that link, and thanks for the suggestion, but to no avail. I think u may have been on the right track though cause it is some sort of permission i need IMO.
