Optimized for what? Are you having problems? Generally, you do not need to do anything other than keep your system adequately cooled, free of clutter (temp files and unnecessary cookies), free from malware, free from heat trapping dust and dirt, and keep a decent amount of free disk space for the page file to operate. Vista will do the rest for you, based on how you normally use it. If you start making tweaks for this, without considering the affects on that, you can create more and worse choke points and bottlenecks.

Understand the notebook is designed primarily for the frequent traveler to perform business type tasks (email, document creating, presentations) while away from their main computer. It takes little horsepower (compared to serious gaming) to do that, or even to watch a DVD movie in high-resolution. But it does still consume battery power. Many "road warriors" optimize (tweak) for the longest run times on a single battery charge, not the same tweaks one would use for optimal graphics performance, for example, or optimal disk write speeds.

The nature of the beast with notebooks is there are few, if any, post-purchase hardware upgrades you can install to improve performance. And understand that notebooks, contrary to what notebook makers or their marketing people may tell you, do not make good gaming machines. High resolution 3D animated gaming is just about the most demanding task asked of today's computers. The confined space of the notebook case does not allow for adequate cooling. This means the mobile CPUs used in most notebooks will toggle down in speed (greatly impacting performance) to keep heat under control.

Also, notebooks typically do not come with an adequate amount of dedicated RAM for graphics. To make up the difference, the on-board graphics steals large chunks of system RAM, in effect, reducing the amount of RAM your CPU and Vista have for their use. That forces them to use the page file on the slow hard drive more often. It does look like your notebook will support 4Gb of RAM and that should help - just be aware that with 4Gb installed, almost 1Gb is used for system overhead and is not available as normal system RAM. That's normal, just don't be alarmed if it looks like a big chunk of RAM is missing.

From a few days? That would indicate something changed by you, or by someone or something else. I recommend you purge the hard drives of clutter using Windows (XP or Vista) Disk Cleanup, ATF Cleaner or CCleaner. If using CCleaner, uncheck option to install Yahoo toolbar during installation. Before first use, go to Options > Settings > Advanced and ensure Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours is unchecked.

Note: Know your site credentials (user name and password) for sites you frequent before cleaning; you may have to login again at next visit.

Download and install Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware (MBAM) then scan as follows:
    Check for updates before scanning,
Select Perform quick scan > Scan,
When complete, click OK, then Show Results,
Ensure all is selected, and click Remove Selected,
When complete, save the log in Notepad to a convenient place for future reference.
Do the same for all computers on your network (everything on your side of the Internet "gateway" device - typically a Cable or DSL modem).

Then post back and let us know how it's going.

I have SUPERAntiSpyware running in real-time and I use MBAM for manual - just to be sure we're clean - scans. Note that running both is not likely to cause any harm. The issue with running two like programs at the same time involves "possible" conflicts as two security programs watch the same assets - two dogs guarding the same bone. The other issue is wasted resources using 2 when 1 will do. MBAM plays very well with other security programs so if you want to run both real time, again, it won't harm anything, and may cause no noticeable impact on performance at all.

Performance is not a big issue for me , so i will use both the programs.

    Thanks

It may not be an issue at all, depending on how much RAM you have and what all is running.

    You are welcome.

2Gb the recommended amount for satisfactory performance with XP and dual core CPUs, and with Vista, so I suspect your computer's performance will not be noticeably impacted if you run both at once.
