windows media player wont load
whenever i try to use windows media player i get a pop box with this mssg.
c:\windows\system32\wploc.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error , try installing again from the installation disk or contact your administrator or vendor for instructions.
ive downloaded wmp 11 from microsoft site but when i try to install it, it tells me that i have the most current version already and it quits, wmp is not in the list of programs that i can uninstall from control panel so what can i do?
-
Is this a new problem? Did WMP 11 work previously?
You can try sfc /scannow from a Run... command.
You will need your Vista DVD. This should repair and or replace any missing or damaged files.

sons computer and yes it worked before, if i try to run scannow from cmd i get mssg
you must be an adminstrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility.
i did this before i loaded my vista disk?
-
When you've typed cmd in Vista's Start menu, just hit Ctrl + Shift + Enter.
This will give you the UAC prompt to run CMD in Admin. mode.
Then do sfc /scannow
-
ok, ran it and it found some but was unable to fix some of them, i created a log file [notepad] but when i try to open it, i get access denied. when/where do i need my operating system disk?
-
Generally it would prompt you to insert your DVD. You could try it again with the DVD in place.
First off see if this helps you open that log:
Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop responding
-
Just an additional aside:
Have you tried right clicking on the WMP icon and choose: Run as Administrator?
-
it never asked for the dvd and i went to the link you provided and findstr couldnot open the log file either??
also, get same result when trying to run wmp as admin

If you can determine an approximate date to when this issue began you can try a System Restore.
start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore
-
You could also get wmploc.dll off your Vista DVD or here:
wmploc.dll download - free dll files
And the replace the current version on the system.
Rename the current version then load the new. If this fails you can then go back and change to the way it was.
